St. John's Sweeps Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Red Storm (11-13) were on the road today to play a double header against Iona College (6-6). In the first game St. John's defeated Iona, 3-0. In the third inning, sophomore Amy Crook reached first base and advanced to second on an error by Shana Gary. Two batters later, freshman Alicia Argeras hit a single up the middle to score Crook. Sophomore Lisa Tropea led off the fourth inning with a walk. Sophomore Ann Raab advanced Tropea to second with a sacrifice bunt. Sophomore Marilyn Brown (2-for-3) scored Tropea to record her second RBI of the game. Junior Gina Calabrese threw a 2 hitter and struck out four to improve her record to 9-5. St. John's completed the sweep with a 3-0 win in the night cap. Alicia Argeras led off the game with a single and stole two bases to put her on third. Lisa Tropea reached base on error by Nicole Dolis, which gave enough time for Argeras to cross the plate. With two outs in the third inning, Tropea walked, followed by a single by Ann Raab. Marilyn Brown hit a triple to right to score Tropea and Raab. Brown was 3-for-6 with 5 RBI's on the day. Freshman Courtney Fitzgerald (2-7) had her best outing of the year, tossing a one hitter to record her second win of the season.
