Sophomore Jillian Sandoval (Orange, Calif.) loaded the bases with a hit to leftfield. Freshman Jo Sherlock (San Diego, Calif.) hit a comebacker to the Huskies pitcher, allowing Argeras to score from third. Connecticut changed pitchers and after retiring the next two batters, Michelle Caouette gave up a bases loaded walk to senior Jessica Cameron (Girard, Ohio). Freshman Megan Oliver (Endicott, N.Y.) came up with a big hit, doubling to left field to clear the bases and drive in three runs. At the end of four, Connecticut led 6-5.
St. Johns would tie the game in the fifth on an RBI single by freshman Jessica Marical (Stanton, Calif.). Argeras doubled, Sandoval was hit by a pitch and Sherlock walked to load the bases for the Red Storm. Then Marical produced a single up the middle to drive in Argeras and tie the game at 6-all.
Oliver sent a hard shot to third base for a hit to get the sixth inning started. Senior Jessica Shepherd (Akron, Ohio), St. Johns all-time leader in sac hits, laid down a bunt to advance Oliver to second. A groundout by Argeras moved Oliver to third for Sainz. Sainz sent a shot down the right line, allowing Oliver to score and give the Red Storm the 7-6 lead.
Sophomore Meghan Allman (San Diego, Calif.) went the distance for the Red Storm, giving up six runs on nine hits. Allman (8-6) struck out five and walked three.
In game two, Connecticut took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run homerun by Jennifer Ward. Mandy Schettini singled up the middle in the third inning allowing Cook, who had doubled, to score the Huskies third run. A sac fly by Kim Castner scored Schettini from third to put Connecticut ahead 4-0.
The Red Storm got on the board in the fourth inning. Argeras and Sainz hit back-to-back singles and then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Sandoval hit a fly ball to right field, allowing Argeras to tag from third and score St. Johns first run of the game. With two out, Marical notched an infield single, beating out the throw from the third baseman, and allowing Sainz to come across from third base and close the gap to 4-2.
In the fifth inning, Schettini and Maggie Arbogast hit back-to-back homeruns to put the Huskies ahead 7-2. Marical came into pitch for the Red Storm, working her way out of a bases loaded jam with a strikeout to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Red Storm made a move, notching two runs on three Connecticut errors. Sainz reached on a fielding error and advanced to second a wild pitch. Sherlock walked and a groundout by Marical put runners on second and third for the Red Storm. Freshman Carrie Kester (Farmington, N.M.) sent a blast that the Connecticut third baseman couldnt handle, allowing Sainz and Sherlock to come around to score. At the end of six, Connecticut led 7-4.
Argeras led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to the right field wall. Sainz followed with a hit up the middle, driving in Argeras from second base to cut the lead to 7-5.
