Women's Basketball Signee Earns Weekly Honor

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's basketball signee Da'Shena Stevens, who is expected to join the Red Storm in the fall of 2008, has been named the MSG.com PellePelle Girls High School Player of the Week.
The senior helped Trinity Catholic High defeat previously unbeaten Ludlowe High with a 28 point, 20 rebound performance. A four-year starter for the Lady Crusaders in her hometown of Stamford, Conn., Stevens was voted the No. 1 player in the state. Ranked as the 52nd overall prospect in some recruiting services, she is also listed as the 11th best player at the small forward position and, most recently was ranked No. 65 on Slam Magazine's Top 100 Class of 2008.
During the 2006-07 campaign, the 6-1 forward averaged 22.1 points, 15.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.2 steals. For her efforts, she was named first team all-state by the Hartford Courant and by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association in 2006 and 2007, and was a 2006 first team New Haven Register All-State selection. In her freshman campaign, she earned first team all-conference honors and received Hartford Courant All-State Honorable Mention accolades.
