QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's soccer player Courtney Lane has been named to the United Soccer League (USL) W-League Team of the Week, as announced by the organization.
Lane, who plays for the New York Magic, had a strong offensive performance in her team's 3-3 draw with the Connecticut Passion. The defender found the back of the net in the 40th minute to put the Magic ahead 2-1, and then scored the equalizer, 3-3, for New York in the 88th minute.
Lane's efforts secured the first point of the season for the Magic, who bounced back after dropping its first two contests of the year.
One of the Red Storm's top defenders, Lane had another strong campaign in 2008 for St. John's. She played and started in 16 games, and helped STJ set the new program record with 10 shutouts and a 0.593 goals against average. She also scored her first career goal last year, the game winner in a 1-0 victory over then-No. 15 Rutgers on Oct. 17. Lane also assisted on the winner in a 1-0 victory over USF on Oct. 12.
