FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - St. John's men's golf alum Andrew Svoboda ended play at the 2009 U.S. Open on a rainy Saturday by shooting a +4, 74, in round two of the PGA Tour Major event at the nearby Bethpage Black Golf Course. Svoboda improved six strokes over yesterday's first round score and finished the tournament with a +14, 154, which tied for 142nd.
The Larchmont, N.Y., native started the day strong by recording a birdie on four of his first seven holes, as he carded an even-par, 35, through the front nine. On the back nine, Svoboda birdied the par-4, 11th, and finished the round with three-straight pars, missing the cut for the final two rounds by seven strokes.
Up next for the Red Storm alum is a trip to Bridgeport, W.Va., to take part in the Nationwide Tour Players Cup. The event will take place at the Pete Dye Golf Course from June 25-28.
