St. John's Hosts Columbia To Conclude Homestand

QUEENS, N.Y. - After defeating Fairfield and taking two of three games from Albany, the St. John's baseball team will close out its five-game homestand by hosting Columbia. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Jack Kaiser Stadium. The Red Storm will then take to the road to open BIG EAST play beginning on March 26 with a three-game set at Pittsburgh.
Stat Of The Week 91-39: St. John's has posted a 91-39 (.700) record in BIG EAST play dating back to the 2005 season. The Red Storm has won three BIG EAST regular season titles in that stretch (2005, 2007 and 2008).
Inside The Series With Columbia
- St. John's and Albany have met 33 times in an all-time series that dates back to 1974.
- The Red Storm leads the series 26-7 and has won six-straight, including a 2-1 win on March 24, 2009.

Karmas, Hopkins Reach 100-Career RBI Mark
- Juniors Paul Karmas and Greg Hopkins each reached the 100-career RBI mark in the weekend series against Albany.
- Karmas picked up his 100th-career RBI on March 19 with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
- Hopkins, meanwhile, reached the mark one day later with a two-run home run in the fourth inning on March 20.
- Karmas accomplished the feat in just 108 games, while Hopkins needed just 111 games to reach the mark.
Valcarcel Clubs First-Career Home Run Following Perfect Day At The Plate
- Miguel Valcarcel connected on his first-career home run, a three-run shot on March 21 against Albany, in just his 12th-career plate appearance.
- Valcarcel, who made his first-career start in the field on March 13, also had a perfect 3-for-3 day with two walks and three runs scored in a start the day before on March 20.
