Karin Palgutova Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

QUEENS, N.Y. - Junior Karin Palgutova was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. In a 3-0 week for the Red Storm, Palgutova racked up 4.00 kills per set with a .408 attacking percentage, which rank second and fourth in league, respectively.
Palgutova collected her first double-double of the season during the Bryant Hampton Inn-vitational against Army. She notched 13 kills and 16 digs in a 3-1 victory against the Black Knights. The Red Storm would go on to sweep both UMass-Lowell and host-Bryant. Palgutova and teammate junior Shawna-Lei Santos received All-Tournament honors.
The native of Bratislava, Slovakia also recorded 2.78 digs per set. She held the match lead in kills in two out the Red Storm three matches and posted a match-high 17 kills in the win against Bryant.
This is Palgutova's second-career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor. She received her first award on Sept. 16, 2013.

St. John's will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to play in the three-day Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic, which begins on Thursday, Sept. 4. The Red Storm will take on 2013 NCAA Second-Round and 2012 Semifinalist Oregon Ducks on the first day before facing New Mexico on Sept. 5. St. John's will conclude the weekend playing host-Hawaii, who finished the 2013 season ranked No. 18 in the AVCA Coaches' Poll.
