Scharf Selected for
NCAA Championships

The singles and doubles competition, hosted by the University of Georgia, will take place May 23-28 in Athens, Ga. The selection of the individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes. Each region receives automatic entry for four singles players and two doubles teams. Seeding for the singles and doubles competitions will be announced on May 22, from Athens, Georgia.
Scharf was among four individuals selected from the northeast region. Joining Scharf from the northeast will be: Oscar Chow of Columbia, Jamie Gresh of Penn State and Steve Berke of Yale. Scharf is the only BIG EAST player selected for the individual championship.
During the 2000-01 season, Scharf has compiled a 31-4 record, earning him the No.100 ranking during the week of April 25. Scharf went undefeated in dual match action, notching 16 wins. Scharf has recorded many significant wins this season. At the ITA All-American Championship, Scharf defeated Jason Marshall of Purdue, who was then ranked 17th nationally. Scharf also advanced to the semifinals as the No. 3 seed of the 128-player ITA Eastern Regional Championships.
Scharf also competed at the 2000 NCAA Championships where he fell to the No. 1 seed in the first round.
