St. John's Hosts Boston College In NCAA Tournament Second Round

QUEENS, N.Y. - After earning a first round bye in the NCAA Tournament, the St. John's men's soccer will host Boston College in the second round. The Red Storm and Eagles will take to the field at Belson Stadium at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22. Stat Of The Week
17-0-4: St. John's current home unbeaten streak dating back to a 2-2 draw against Seton Hall on Nov. 7, 2007. The Red Storm went 12-0-0 at home in 2008 and is 5-0-3 thus far in 2009.
Inside The Series With Boston College
- This will be the 24th meeting in a series that began in 1980.
- St. John's leads the all-time series 15-6-2, including a 7-2-1 record in games played at Belson Stadium.

- Sverre Wegge Gundhus has been honored by TopDrawerSoccer as a third team selection to the publication's Teams of the Season.
- A first team All-BIG EAST selection, Wegge Gundhus has a team-high 18 points, leads the team with eight assists and is tied for the team lead with five goals.
St. John's Wins Conference-Record Eighth BIG EAST Tournament
- With a shootout victory against Notre Dame, St. John's won its conference-record eighth BIG EAST Tournament (1992-95, 98, 2001, 2006, 2009).
- The Red Storm has appeared in the title game 12 times and is 7-4-1 all-time in the finals.
Hines Named Most Outstanding Offensive Player
- Walter Hines was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the BIG EAST Tournament after tallying one game-winning goal.
- Hines notched the game-winner in a 2-0 semifinal win against Providence for his first-career postseason goal.
Carrillo Earns Most Outstanding Defensive Player Accolades
- After posting a pair of shutouts to help St. John's win the BIG EAST Tournament, Derby Carrillo was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
- Carrillo made five saves in a 2-0 win against Providence in the semifinals and added four saves in a 0-0 draw with Notre Dame.
- The keeper also made one stop in the penalty kick shootout victory against the Fighting Irish.
Five Players Earn All-Tournament Honors
- After winning its eighth BIG EAST Tournament crown, St. John's had five players named to the All-Tournament team.
- Walter Hines, the Most Outstanding Offensive Player, and Derby Carrillo, the Most Outstanding Defensive Player, were joined by Connor Lade, David Reed and Sverre Wegge Gundhus.
- Lade converted the decisive penalty kick in the shootout and also anchored a defensive unit that posted two shutouts.
- Reed assisted on the game-winning goal against Providence and also helped the back line blank the opposition for 200:00.
- Wegge Gundhus tallied an assist against Providence and played all 200:00 minutes at forward.
