St. John’s to Face St. Francis Brooklyn in Friday Night Tilt

Red Storm to continue four-game homestand to open 2022-23 season
QUEENS, N.Y.- In the second of four-straight home games to open the 2022-23 campaign, the St. John's women's basketball team will host St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday for a 7.p.m contest at Carnesecca Arena.
Friday night's meeting between New York City foes will be streamed on FloSports with Matt Levine and Marc Ernay on the call.
In Monday's opener, the Red Storm doubled up Monmouth, 78-39, in its largest margin of victory in a season opener in 22 years. The Johnnies defense proved suffocating, as the Hawks shot just 27.9 percent from the floor and 12 percent from three-point range.
All-BIG EAST Preseason selection Kadaja Bailey picked up right where she left off to start her final campaign with the Johnnies. the redshirt senior poured in a game-high 23 points. Bailey was incredibly efficient shooting 10-for-13 from field goal range. The Long Beach, N.Y., native made a significant impact on the defensive end grabbing nine boards and blocking three shots. Prior to Friday's game, Bailey will be honored for becoming the 28th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points in last year's regular season finale at Marquette on Feb. 27.
A trio of transfers- Jillian Archer, Jayla Everett and Mimi Reid earned spots in the starting five in their St. John's (1-0) debuts. Archer tied Bailey for the game-lead of nine rebounds, including five on the offensive end. Everett showed capable range from deep, burying three triples and finished in double-figures with 11 points. Reid, a veteran pass-first point guard, dished out a team-high four assists and facilitated an offense that shot 51.7 percent from field-goal range.
Unique Drake provided a big boost off the bench, adding 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. A high-motor senior guard, Drake corralled an offensive board and sunk a mid-range floater as time expired to give the Red Storm a 39-13 cushion heading into the half.
While play just began, the St. Francis Brooklyn (1-0), boasts the nation's top scoring defense as of games through played Nov. 9. In its season opener, the Terriers crushed Division III opponent Old Westbury, 81-15. The Terriers were picked third in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' poll, including grabbing one first place vote. The Terriers are led by their lone returning starter, senior guard Alyssa Fisher, she poured in 15 points in her first outing this year.
Tomorrow marks the ninth all-time meeting between the programs and th first since 2013. Led by Head Coach Joe Tartamella, the Johnnies secured a victory, 66-56. The program's all-time top scorer Aliyyah Handford paced the Red & White with a game-high 19 points. The Red Storm lead the series, 8-0.
Following the contest, St. John's players will be available to autograph team posters in the arena concourse.
