Accolade recognizes history of community service and dedication
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's Head Basketball Coach Mike Anderson and his wife, Marcheita, were recognized on Tuesday with the Dr. Pamela Shea Byrnes Award at the Johnny's Angels Annual Dinner held at Giando on the Water in Brooklyn.
Â
The Johnny's Angels Annual Dinner serves as one of the main fundraisers for St. John's Bread and Life, the University's food distribution center and soup kitchen located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. Bread and Life also offers an array of other services aimed at helping individuals and families move from crisis situations to greater permanency.Â
Â
The Dr. Pamela Shea Byrnes Award honors the legacy of its namesake, who served as the Vice President for University Ministry and University Events while also serving on the Board of Directors for St. John's Bread and Life. Byrnes passed away suddenly in 2014, but not before living a life defined by the utmost dedication to the Vincentian ideals of her alma mater.Â
Â
Since arriving at St. John's in the spring of 2019, the Andersons have devoted themselves to the University's service-oriented mission donating generously in both time and resources to a number of initiatives aimed at helping the less-fortunate in the local and global communities.Â
