Giorgia Walther Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week; Erin Jones Tabbed to Honor Roll

Walther led the BIG EAST with 33 kills, averaging 4.71 per set
NEW YORK – Coming off a 2-0 conference opening weekend, Giorgia Walther was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week while Erin Jones was tabbed to the conference's honor roll, the league office announced on Monday.
The honor marks the second of Walther's career and the first since she won the conference's offensive player of the week on Oct. 17, 2022. Jones was selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the third time this season.
Walther was magnificent for the Red Storm last week, totaling a BIG EAST leading 33 kills at a whopping 4.71 per set. The Italy product also registered 13 digs, four blocks and a service ace.
The senior led all hitters in the Johnnies' battle against Seton Hall on Friday with 22 kills at a 33.3 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs and a block. She went on to register 11 kills, six digs, three blocks and a service ace against Georgetown on Sunday. Walther's 208 kills currently rank 31st in the country and her 237 points sit 32nd.
Jones continued her stellar junior season, going off for 29 kills at 4.14 per set to go along with a team-leading 33 digs at 4.71 per set with 14 assists, two aces and two blocks. The junior also posted double-doubles in both of the Red Storm's matches.
Jones led the way for the Red Storm against Seton Hall, posting 16 kills on a 36.7 percent clip and a match-leading 18 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. The junior also registered six assists, two aces and two block assists.
The Albuquerque, N.M., native produced her third straight and eighth overall double-double at Georgetown, after pacing the match with 15 digs and 13 kills on a 34.6 hitting percentage. The standout also registered eight assists. Jones currently leads the Red Storm with 279 points and 236 kills.
St. John's will hit the road this weekend to take on Xavier and DePaul on Oct. 4 and Oct. 6, respectively.
