The Red Storm will play 24 matches across six states
Head Coach Dillon Pottish announced the 2025 spring schedule for the St. John's men's tennis team on Tuesday.
The Johnnies, coming off their fifth-straight BIG EAST Tournament Championship appearance, will play 24 matches this season, including three contests against teams who qualified for the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The Red Storm will host 10 matches at the UTSA National Tennis Center, Cunningham Park and the St. John's Outdoor Courts on campus and face three BIG EAST opponents during the 2025 regular season.
"I'm extremely excited to start the season," said Pottish. "We have a deep team that is very experienced and a tough opener against an NCAA tournament team last year in Binghamton. I know the boys are excited to get going."
The Johnnies will begin its 2025 campaign with a pair of matches in Binghamton, N.Y. On Jan. 24, the Red Storm will face Binghamton, who qualified for the NCAA Tournament last spring, before meeting Niagara the next day.
St. John's plays at home for the first time on Jan. 29, a double-header against Quinnipiac and Rider at Cunningham Park in Queens. Two days later, the Johnnies will host another twin-billing against Morgan State and FDU back at Cunningham Park.
BIG EAST play begins on Feb. 7 on neutral ground when the Red Storm makes the trek to West Point, N.Y., to take on Marquette and will stay at the United States Military Academy to battle Georgetown at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center on Feb. 8. The weekend wraps up with a clash against Army on Feb. 9.
The Johnnies return to Queens on Feb. 12 to renew its rivalry with LIU before heading west on Feb. 15 to face BIG EAST foe Creighton in Omaha, Neb. The Red Storm will remain in Nebraska the next day to play Omaha at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
After a five-day hiatus, St. John's returns to Cunningham Park to host Brown on Feb. 28. The two sides last met in 2023 in Providence, R.I., a 5-2 triumph for the Johnnies.
Pottish's squad will have nearly two weeks off before a pair of matches in the desert. On March 6, St. John's will face Northern Arizona for the first time in program history in Flagstaff, Ariz., and will meet Arizona a day later in the second matchup in two years between the two programs. The Wildcats earned the ninth overall seed in last year's NCAA Tournament and advanced to the round of 16, eventually falling to No. 8 Columbia.
A familiar foe comes to Queens on March 12 when the Red Storm play its first match of the season at the USTA National Tennis Center against Hofstra, marking the fourth-straight year the Red Storm and Pride have squared off. When the two sides met last season, St. John's walked away with a 4-0 sweep on Feb. 8, 2024.
The Johnnies will head to Ithaca, N.Y., to clash with Cornell on March 15, kicking off a three-match road swing. Four days later, on March 18, St. John's will be in West Long Branch, N.J., to face Monmouth before wrapping up the road trip against Yale on March 22 in West Haven, Conn.
The Red Storm welcomes Temple to Queens to wrap up the month of March on the 30th at the USTA National Tennis Center. This will be the first meeting between the two programs since the 2022 season.
April begins with a trip to the Bronx to take on Fordham on the second, and the Johnnies will play their final road contests of the regular season on April 5 against Drexel at the Vidas Athletic Complex in Philadelphia.
The season will come to a close with a two-match homestand, beginning on April 9 against Villanova. The campaign wraps up on April 11 against St. Joe's. Both matches will be at the St. John's Outdoor Courts.
Following the regular season, the BIG EAST Tournament will return to The Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C., from April 18-21.
Pottish returns eight members from last year's squad that earned the top overall seed in the conference tournament, including 2024 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Armando Sotelo and two-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection Carl Gustavsson.
