St. John’s to Square Off with Xavier on Sunday

Red Storm will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team is set to welcome Xavier to Queens for a 2 p.m. tilt on Sunday inside Carnesecca Arena.
In celebration on National Girls and Women in Sports, Sunday's broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports will feature a female broadcast crew in Edona Thaqi and Maria Marino on the call. Live Stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.

The Red Storm (12-9, 2-8 BIG EAST) are fresh off a 62-55 victory over Providence on Wednesday night inside Carnesecca Arena. The Johnnies rallied from a 12-point third-quarter deficit, engineering a 29-8 scoring run during the third and fourth quarters to earn the victory.
St. John's continued to play stout defense in the win, limiting its opponent to under 60 points for the 13th time this season. The squad checks in at 24th in the nation in scoring defense, limiting the opposition to just 55.5 points per game.
On offense, the Johnnies were led by junior guard Skye Owen, who lit it up from beyond-the-arc, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from three to lead all scorers with 17 points. The five three-pointers marked a career-high and the most by a Red Storm player this season. Owen was critical in St. John's fourth-quarter comeback, accounting for 11 points, including three triples over the final 6:51 of regulation.
Lashae Dwyer joined Owen in double figures, tallying 16 points to go along with four rebounds and a steal against the Friars. The Miami transfer currently sits 12th in field goal percentage (41 percent) and 14th in scoring (13.4) in the BIG EAST. Dwyer also helps lead the Red Storm on defense, as her 63 steals and three steals per game rank ninth and 17th in the country, respectively.
Jailah Donald rounded out the double-figure scorers for St. John's, pouring in 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting with a team-high seven rebounds. Wednesday's game marked the team captain's season-high in scoring and matched a career-high in rebounding.
Off the bench, Julie Bahati provided a boost for the Red Storm, tallying career-bests in points (6), free-throws made (4), rebounds (4) and minutes played (13) in the victory.
St. John's and Xavier will meet for the 24th time in the all-time series and for the second time this season on Sunday afternoon. The Red Storm have dominated the series with a 21-2 mark dating back to 2014. Additionally, the Johnnies have never lost to the Musketeers at home, boasting an unblemished 10-0 mark in Queens.
In the season's first matchup, the Red Storm took down Xavier, 60-31, on Jan. 11 inside the Cintas Center. Kylie Lavelle exploded for a season-high 23 points and drained four three-pointers in the convincing triumph.
Xavier comes to Queens with a 6-15 overall record and a 1-9 mark in BIG EAST play. In their last contest, the Musketeers fell to Marquette, 67-38, at home on Wednesday night.
