St. John’s Falls to FGCU, 4-1

The Johnnies will be back in action on March 15 at Seton Hall
FORT MEYERS, FLA. – The St. John's women's tennis team fell to FGCU, 4-1, on Wednesday morning at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Meyers, Fla.
The Johnnies (7-4, 1-0 BIG EAST) took the team doubles point, but the Eagles rallied in solo play to hand the Red Storm its fourth defeat of the season.
Alicia Gomez and Noemi Babikova kicked of partner play with their first victory of the season as a pair, taking down Isabella Colmenares and Gabriela Macias on the No.1 court, 6-2. FGCU evened the score with a 6-0 win on the No. 2 court, but Charlotta Buss and Giulia Bizzari teamed up for a 6-4 triumph over Anjali Kotecha and Francisca Vergara to claim the team point for the visitors. With the victory, Buss and Bizzari are a perfect 6-0 as a pair so far in dual match competition.
FGCU took singles matches on the No. 6, 4, 2 and 1 courts to complete the comeback victory. Buss took a set off Nora Svensson on the No. 3 court before the match was ultimately deemed unfinished.
St. John's will return to action on March 15 when it travels to South Orange, N.J., to take on Seton Hall in the team's second BIG EAST contest of 2025.
