Head Coach Norm Roberts
Opening Statement
"We made some plays when we needed too. D.J. shot the ball very well in the first half and Paris made some big shots early. We want to keep our defensive pressure up. Jaytornah Wisseh controlled the whole game and played well for them."
On lineups
"We had some different lineups in there too, we needed to move the ball better and have better body movements. We've done that through our scrimmages, and we play a lot of guys. We're going to play a lot of guys."
On not Malik Stith not playing due to injury
"Not having Malik Stith out there today kind of took us off key because he has been the backup point guard. He comes in and he's a pit bull defender. He allows us to play fast so and we can keep the game going fast. He hurt his foot a little bit in practice last night, we thought he was ok but he came in this morning and it was swollen so we kept him out."
On Dwight Hardy
"Dwight Hardy is not a push-the-ball point guard, but he did an adequate job, especially for someone who was told this morning that he would be playing point. I thought he did a good job. He shoots a little better than what he shot tonight and I thought he and Malik Boothe both did a good job."
On LIU
"LIU got it in a flow. They do the same thing every game -- they slow the defense and they make it so you can't run. That's what they do. Jim Ferry is very good at that he's a very good coach."
On Omari Lawrence
"Omari Lawrence did very well. He made a jumper and he had a couple finishes on the inside. Omar's going to be a good player. He's a guy that can make big plays for us."
On five players scoring in double figures
"Tonight we had 5 guys in double figures and I hope its like that all the time. Sean Evans probably didn't play as well as he could have, but then Justin Brownlee picked us up."
On rebounding
"I can't believe how many rebounds we had that slipped out of our hands and hit someone on the head and they got the rebound. It was crazy but we still made plays and hopefully we can squeeze the ball better."
Junior Guard D.J. Kennedy
On his team's performance tonight
"We were trying to be patient and execute on offense. We didn't shoot the ball as well as we can. We struggled at the line."
On Jaytornah Wisseh
"You got to give him a lot of credit. He controlled the game. But we have to work on containing him. We needed to player better defense as a team on him. He is a great player. We have to give him a lot of credit. today was his game.
Junior Forward Justin Brownlee
"It's basketball. The team is helping me out. It was exciting. I just do what coach tells me to do and play my game. Whatever you want me to do, I do it the best I can. Play hard, play defense, rebound and make plays. I think I can shoot the ball well."
Junior Guard Paris Horne
"Great, we can come hard, go all out and give a 110 percent and you know that you've got another fresh group coming in behind you. So it's great. I think we've just got to shake the cobwebs off in the beginning, that's all."
Head Coach Jim Ferry
Opening Statement:
"First of all, I think that is a much-improved St. John's team. They played so hard and they just wear you down. Their shooting ability now changes them as a team. I want to give our guys a lot of credit tonight. We hung around and grinded it out. I think Jaytornah Wisseh is a star that really dictated the tempo of the game and kept us in it."
On the closing minutes:
"We had an opportunity to cut the lead to six and then we missed a couple lay-ups. They overwhelmed us on the offensive glass and that really hurt us. We missed some shots. If they would have went in, it would have changed the whole complex of the game for us. But instead, they turned into fast break points for St. John's."
