St. John's Squares Off with Fordham Wednesday at Rose Hill Gym

QUEENS, N.Y. - One of the oldest college basketball series in New York City that dates back to 1909 continues Wednesday when St. John's and Fordham square off for their 87th all-time meeting. The Red Storm goes for its fifth-straight win against the Rams at 7 p.m. inside historic Rose Hill Gym in the Bronx.

After traveling nearly 5,000 miles to participate in the prestigious Maui Invitational, the Red Storm looks to carry momentum from its latest victory over Chaminade into its shortest road trip of the season against Fordham. Federico Mussini (Reggio Emilia, Italy) led six St. John's players who scored double-figures with 24 points en route to a 100-93 victory over the Silverswords. Mussini, the seventh-highest scoring freshman in the nation (17.3 ppg), hit five 3-pointers and dished out a game-high six assists.
Despite having only six scholarship players available for action against Chaminade, the Red Storm had its best shooting performance of the season going 59.3 percent (35-59) from the field and 52.6 percent (10-19) from 3-point range. In addition to Mussini, three players delivered career scoring performances as Durand Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) went for 18 points while Christian Jones (Arlington, Texas) and Amar Alibegovic (Rome, Italy) poured in 17 apiece.
Fordham (4-1) enters the matchup with St. John's (4-2) riding a four-game win streak, and has averaged a 22.8-point margin of victory at home this season. Seniors Mandell Thomas (17.6 ppg) and Ryan Rhoomes (14.8 ppg) are the team's top scorers. Freshman guard Joseph Chartouny has averaged 10.0 points and a team-high 5.2 assists per game.
The Rams are coming off an 87-64 victory over cross-town rival Manhattan on Saturday. Thomas buried four 3-pointers and had 26 points, while Rhoomes went for a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) and swatted six shots.
St. John's meeting with Fordham concludes a four-game stretch of away contests for the Red Storm. St. John's begins a five-game homestand Sunday at Madison Square Garden when the Red Storm takes on St. Francis Brooklyn in the MSG Holiday Festival.
