QUEENS, N.Y. (March 27, 2023) – Mouna Bouzgarrou and Emilie Haakansson were selected as the BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week, the league office released on Monday.
Bouzgarrou and Haakansson teamed up for a pair of conference wins against UConn and Georgetown. On Friday, the tandem knocked out Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou 7-5, in the top spot. The pair finished the weekend with a 6-3 win over Georgetown's Olivia Ashton and Morgan Coburn on Sunday in Washington D.C.
The duo started the season 1-1, and broke out on a five-match winning streak. The win streak is the longest currently on the team. The two have teamed up for six wins, tied for the most on the team, while touting the best winning percentage.
Bouzgarrou is no stranger to earning BIG EAST honors, as this is the third time she has been selected to the doubles team of the week. Her first honors were with partner Lalita Devarakonda.
The Red Storm notched a pair of conference victories over the weekend to improve to 10-6 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league play.
The Red Storm will be back in action next week with back-to-back matches starting on Friday. The Johnnies will host Hofstra at 2:15 p.m. at the USTA Tennis Center before traveling to Stony Brook for a 12 p.m. match on Sunday.
