Ejiofor tied for fourth all-time in program history with eight blocks in the win over Ole Miss
QUEENS, N.Y. – After recording one of the best shot-blocking performances in St. John's men's basketball history, Zuby Ejiofor was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Monday.
Ejiofor went for a team-high 15 points, nine rebounds, a career-high eight blocks and three steals in the 63-58 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday at Madison Square Garden. The senior forward recorded 13 of his 15 points during the second half and shot 9-for-11 (81.8%) from the free throw line as the Red Storm earned its first win over an SEC opponent in 13 years.
Ejiofor was a force around the rim tallying a career-best eight rejections, including six in the first half against the Rebels. The Garland, Texas native became the fourth player in program history to register eight or more blocks in a single-game joining Chris Obekpa, Sir'Dominic Pointer and Tariq Owens, who last accomplished the feat against Georgetown on Jan. 9, 2018. Ejiofor's eight blocks tied for third-most in NCAA Division I this season.
The Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year also became just the fifth player this decade to record at least 15 points, nine rebounds, eight blocks and three steals in a single-game and the first since Penn State's Mike Watkins on Nov. 27, 2019.
Ejiofor earns his second conference honor this season after he was tabbed BIG EAST Player of the Week on Nov. 10. Last season, the team captain was selected five times for the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll en route to winning the league's most improved player award.
On the year, Ejiofor leads the Red Storm averaging 15.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.9 assists per game. The 6-foot-9 big man ranks third in conference in blocks per game and seventh in rebounds per contest.
No. 23/22 St. John's will be back in action at Madison Square Garden to take on Iona at 12 p.m. on TNT. To purchase tickets click here, visit RedStormTix.com, call 1-888-GO-STORM or e-mail redstormsports@stjohns.edu.
