RJ Luis Jr. Selected to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Junior standout averaged 22.5 points per game in a 2-0 week
NEW YORK – St. John's men's basketball standout RJ Luis Jr. earns a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll award of the season after the Red Storm captured the outright regular season league title on Saturday.
The conference office awarded Luis Jr. for the second time in the last month after averaging 22.5 points on 55.2 percent (16-29) from the field and 50.0 percent (5-10) from 3-point land. The Miami native added 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in 37.6 minutes of action in victories over Butler and Seton Hall.
In Wednesday's win at Hinkle Fieldhouse, Luis Jr. led the charge offensively pouring in a game-high 24 points in a gritty 76-70 victory over the Bulldogs. The wing shot 9-for-16 (56.2%) and went 3-for-6 (50%) from 3-point range.
Luis Jr. closed the week with another 20-point outing logging his 10th of the season finishing with 21 points in the win over Seton Hall, 71-61, in a sold-out Madison Square Garden. The junior grabbed six boards and went 7-for-13 (53.8%) from the floor.
The junior has taken a major leap in his second season under Head Coach Rick Pitino leading the Red Storm to an outright 2024-25 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship, the program's first the 1984-85 season. Luis Jr. ranks fourth in the league in scoring averaging 17.8 points and sixth with 6.9 rebounds per game. The wing is tied atop the league with teammate Zuby Ejiofor with eight double-doubles and has logged 10 20-plus point scoring performances this season.
Luis Jr. has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll four times after today's recognition and has twice been selected as the conference's player of the week.
The Red Storm will be back in action for its regular season finale on Saturday to face No. 21/22 Marquette at Fiserv Forum for a 12 p.m. tip-off on FOX.
