Rick Pitino Throws Out Ceremonial First Pitch at Yankee Stadium

National Coach of the Year throws first prior to Yankees-Guardians game on Wednesday night in the Bronx
BRONX, N.Y. – St. John's Men's Basketball Head Coach and 2024-25 National Coach of the Year Rick Pitino delivered the ceremonial first pitch on Wednesday night ahead of the Yankees' contest against the Cleveland Guardians.
Before the game, Pitino met with eighth-year Yankees Manager Aaron Boone, as the two coaches exchanged commemorative jerseys and posed for a photograph. Pitino also chatted with current Yankees players.
After getting some warm-up tosses in the bullpen, the New York native took to the mound and delivered to a high fastball that hit the top of the zone to third baseman Oslwald Peraza to the applause of the Yankee Stadium crowd.
Following his first pitch, the Hall of Famer will talk to Dave Sims and Suzyn Waldman of the Yankees Radio Network in the third inning and the Michael Kay and Paul O'Neill with the YES Network in the fourth inning.
Pitino led the Red Storm to a historic season in 2024-25 capturing a BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championship, The active winningest coach in college basketball led the Johnnies to a program record tying 31 victories and became the first coach to ever lead six different programs to the NCAA Tournament, earning a No. 2 seed in the Big Dance.
