QUEENS, N.Y. - After leading the Red Storm men's basketball team to back-to-back road wins, Zuby Ejiofor was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Ejiofor averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game as the Johnnies picked up a pair of Quad 1 wins at Butler (Jan. 6) and at Creighton (Jan. 10). The Garland, Texas native has now been recognized by the league five times this season. Ejiofor has twice been tabbed BIG EAST Player of the Week (Nov. 10, Jan. 5) and landed on the honor roll three times (Dec. 8, Dec. 29, Jan. 12).
The Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year paces the Johnnies in scoring (15.8 PPG), rebounding (7.5 RPG), assists (3.1 APG), steals (1.4 SPG) and blocks (2.2 BPG). Ejiofor is one of two players in NCAA Division I to lead their team in all five of those statistical categories, alongside Arkansas Pine-Bluff's Quion Williams.
In Indianapolis, the 6-foot-9 forward led the team in scoring for the eighth time finishing with 18 points in an 84-70 victory over Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The team captain shot 6-for-7 (85.7%) from the free throw line and matched a then-personal best with three steals in 29 minutes of action.
Ejiofor followed up the performance with his sixth consecutive double-figure scoring outing at Creighton on Saturday. The senior added 12 points and a career-high four steals as St. John's snapped a six-game skid in Omaha during a 90-73 rout at the CHI Health Center.
