On the team’s week off…
“I feel it was a good thing. A lot of guys are beat up so just to get treatment on our bodies coming down the stretch and into these last couple of weeks, I feel like it was a good thing for us to relax our minds, our bodies and get back to fine-tuning everything in practice to work on our game. I feel like it was good for us.”
On his role this season…
“[This season] has been a rollercoaster, but that’s how life is. It’s not going to be high all the time. The main thing was that I was trying to keep confidence in myself. I was never trying to lose confidence. I stayed in the gym when things weren’t going well and I think that helped me out a lot. I feel like I found myself a lot this year, knowing I could go through adversity and stay positive. The last two years I wouldn’t have taken it this way. I feel like I have grown as a person here. I have to thank Coach [Pitino] and the coaching staff for keeping their confidence in me, they never lost confidence. Even my teammates for pushing me in practice and keeping my mental right. I feel like it was a big year, I learned a lot this year and I’m grateful for it.”
On recent success on the court…
“I made a decision that I was going to keep it short and just play to win. I feel like I was thinking too much in those early games where I was off. I just decided to keep it short and allow my defense to translate to my offense. Keeping it the main thing and trying to win for my team.”
On his mindset heading into games…
“It's just about letting the game come to me. That’s been a big thing, not coming in with a game plan, honestly. I just go out there and try to win. I saw in the Creighton game that they weren’t really boxing out, so I was just trying to attack the boards a lot. Against Butler, I just had open shots and I took them. My teammates were finding me and I knew that’s what we needed. Just coming into games, letting the game come to me and seeing what is needed of me at that time to win.”
