Late Goal Lifts Notre Dame Past St. Johns, 1-0

JAMAICA, N.Y. -- Notre Dames Chad Riley scored with 7:08 left in regulation, lifting the Irish to a 1-0 win over 10th-ranked St. Johns at Alumni Field in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday night. The loss drops the Red Storm to 9-3-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the BIG EAST.
In the first half, St. Johns took five shots on goal, but Notre Dame goalkeeper Justin Ratcliffe made five saves to keep the game scoreless.
Notre Dame took six shots in the second half, but did not score until Justin Detter found Riley in front of the box. His shot beat St. Johns goalkeeper Jeffrey Stoklosa (Newark, Del.) giving the Irish (5-6-1, 2-5-0) the win.
Both teams took eight shots on goal. St. Johns had five corner kicks, while Notre Dame took three. Stoklosa recorded three saves, while Ratcliffe had six.
The Red Storm play next on Friday, October 20, hosting Boston College at DaSilva Memorial Field at 7 p.m.
