Cook Earns BIG EAST Rookie Honors

He shared the honor on November 20 with Seton Hall's Eddie Griffin. This time, he shared the award with UConn's Caron Butler.
Cook guided St. Johns to a 1-1 week after averaging 17.0 points, 12.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals as the Red Storm (7-6) beat Virginia Tech (89-64) and lost at Connecticut (82-80 in overtime).
On January 3, Cook scored 23 points, connecting on 8-of-9 shots from the field and 6-of-6 from three-point land to lead St. Johns to its third-straight win, an 89-64 victory over the Hokies. Cook handed out eight assists, recorded six steals and grabbed four rebounds in the process. His perfect performance from three-point land tied the BIG EAST record for shooting percentage and established a new conference mark for freshmen.
Then, on January 6, the freshman point guard scored 11 points and handed out 15 assists in an 82-80 loss to the Huskies.
Cooks 15 assists marked the fifth time this season he has recorded at least 10 assists in a game. He has handed out at least eight in each of the last 11 games, a 10.27 per game average. Cook ranks second in the country, and leads the BIG EAST, with a 9.5 per game average.
St. Johns plays Boston College (11-0) in a BIG EAST game at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
