2/12/2001 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Cook averaged 22.5 points and 12.0 assists as the Red Storm (13-9, 7-4 BIG EAST) split games with Notre Dame and Miami.
In an 83-73 loss at Notre Dame, Cook scored a career-high 24 points and handed out 12 assists. He connected on six three-pointers, the second time this season he has hit that many from outside the arc.
On Saturday, he guided the Red Storm to a dramatic 85-79 double overtime win over Miami. Cook scored a game-high 21 points, again handed out 12 assists and registered five steals. The freshman hit a pair of NBA-length three-pointers, the only two he hit during the entire game, in the second overtime, lifting St. Johns to the win.
Cook leads St. Johns in scoring this season, averaging 16.3 points per game. He has 200 assists this season, the third-best single-season mark in St. Johns history, and a record for the most by a freshman. His 9.1 per game average leads the BIG EAST and the nation. Should Cook finish the season leading the nation in assists, he would be the first freshman to lead the nation in that category.
In addition, he has connected on 54 three-pointers, second on the team, and the fifth-best mark in a season at St. Johns.
The Red Storm return to action on Wednesday, hosting Providence (17-6, 8-3) at Alumni Hall. The game is slated to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on WLNY-TV 55.
