We are very sorry to see Ed go, but we are happy for him at the same time, said Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. Johns University. Ed has led the St. Johns University Athletic Department with professionalism and grace for six years, producing two national championship teams and countless other athletic achievements of which our university community can be extremely proud. We will miss his dedication to alma mater as well as his daily presence on our campus. We wish Ed much success in his new position.
The 45-year-old professional and native New Yorker has had a successful six year run at St. John's, winning two NCAA National Championships in men's soccer (1996) and men's and women's fencing (2001). During Manettas tenure, mens head basketball coach Mike Jarvis joined St. Johns and led the Red Storm to the Elite Eight at the NCAA's in 1998 and won the AT&T 2000 BIG EAST Championship at Madison Square Garden.
"Having known and worked with Ed for over two decades, I'm delighted that he will bring his experience, expertise and enthusiasm to Hill and Knowlton's burgeoning Sports Marketing group," said Phil Sheldon, general manager, Hill and Knowlton New York.
"I want to thank Father Harrington for allowing me to live a dream in serving as Director of Athletics for my alma mater," Manetta said. "St. John's Athletics has a bright future continuing into the new millennium and is in the capable hands of an outstanding group of coaches and administrators," Manetta said. "I will miss the people at St. John's, in particular, our outstanding student-athletes."
Manetta and his wife Debbie reside in Larchmont, NY, with their three children, Lindsey, Nicole and James.
