This is the second-straight year that Jarvis has worked with the United States team, having served as an assistant coach when the team won the gold last year. Jarvis will be serving as a head coach for the first time in his career during the trip.
Im excited about it, Jarvis said. We had a great trip last year and weve got a great group of kids. The teams are pretty good, and I know its going to be a challenge, but Im looking forward to it, and to being a head coach for the first time.
Joining Jarvis II on the sidelines will be Seton Hall University assistant coach Brian Nash, as well as Stony Brook University assistant coach Brian Blaney.
St. Johns University sophomores Kyle Cuffe (Bronx, N.Y./Rice) and Willie Shaw (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) headline the roster of 10 collegians. Joining them will be senior center Dan Gadzuric of UCLA, junior forward Rickey Wright of Villanova, forward Durelle Brown, who recently graduated from Manhattan, sophomore forward Marcus Toney-El of Seton Hall, sophomore guard Marquis Daniels, Jr. of Auburn, sophomore guard Duwad Munir of Stony Brook and sophomore guard Marlon Parmer of New Mexico.
The team will play exhibition games against Latina, an Italian professional team, on Saturday, June 16 and Monday, June 18.
Following those games, the team will depart for Thessaloniki, Greece, the site of the Olympus Cup. The tournament, which includes the Czech Republic, Fyrom (the Macedonian national team), Greece, Russia and Senegal, begins on Thursday, June 21 and will run through Sunday, June 24. The consolation and championship games will be held on June 24.
