QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's head women's basketball coach Kim Barnes Arico announced on Tuesday that former Notre Dame and WNBA standout Megan Duffy has joined the Red Storm staff as an assistant coach.
"I am really excited to welcome Megan to our program as an assistant coach," Barnes Arico said. "She was a tremendous collegiate player at Notre Dame and has a wealth of experience playing in the BIG EAST, in the NCAA Tournament and in the WNBA. She knows what it takes to compete in this league night in and night out, and her experience playing professionally will add another dimension as we challenge for a BIG EAST title."
Duffy's primary responsibilities with the Red Storm will be working with the guards, recruiting, game planning and other responsibilities as assigned.
Duffy has extensive knowledge of the game of basketball, as she was a highly-decorated college player at Notre Dame and then went on to enjoy success playing internationally and in the WNBA.
A four-year letterwinner for the Fighting Irish from 2002-06, Duffy helped lead ND to four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Sweet 16 berths. A point guard, Duffy scored 1,290 career points and finished her career as the third player in Notre Dame history to amass 1,000 points, 500 assists and 200 steals. She was a 2005 and 2006 Associated Press All-America honorable mention selection, a 2005 and 2006 Kodak All-America honorable mention selection, a 2006 Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award winner, a 2006 John Wooden Award finalist, and a 2005 and 2006 All-BIG EAST first team selection.
Duffy went on to enjoy a successful professional basketball career, playing internationally with teams in Romania, Slovakia, Italy and Wales, and in the WNBA with the Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty.
