Four St. John’s Women’s Basketball Players Named to CSC Academic All-District

Lavelle, Abies, Moore and Wyatt all earn honor for academic and athletic performance
NEW YORK – Four St. John's women's basketball players garnered College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors on Tuesday.
For the second time in her career, Brooke Moore made the CSC Academic All-District® team, previously as a sophomore at Liberty and as now as a junior at St. John's. Kylie Lavelle, Daniela Abies and Sa'Mya Wyatt were all recognized by on the CSC Academic All-District® team for the first time in their careers.
The honor is presented to student-athletes with above a 3.5 GPA that competed in 90 percent of the team's contests this season.
Moore, an economics major with a 3.91 GPA, played in 34 games with 31 starts and averaged 11.7 points, shooting an impressive 50.7% (142-280) from the field. She added 4.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game, showing her impact on both ends. Offensively, the Kennesaw, Ga. native was highly efficient, scoring in double figures 22 times this season while also hitting 31.8% from three and 76.2% from the free throw line. The guard racked up a number of accolades throughout the campaign as she was recognized by the BIG EAST four times throughout the season and named Second Team All-BIG EAST to conclude the year.
Wyatt, a biology major with a 3.90 GPA, started all 34 games for the Red Storm, averaging 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest. The sophomore reached double figures in 18 games, scored 20 or more points four times and recorded one double-digit rebounding performance, pulling down a career-high 13 boards against Georgetown on Jan. 13. The Powder Springs, Ga., native was a top scorer for St. John's, shooting an efficient 50.7% (148-292) from the floor. Wyatt earned conference recognition for the second time in her career as an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention and last season as the ASUN Freshman of the Year and an All-ASUN Third Team selection at Austin Peay.
Abies, a communication arts major with a 3.81 GPA, appeared in 34 games with 11 starts and emerged as a consistent presence in the frontcourt. She averaged 5.9 points and 7.0 rebounds, while shooting an efficient 47.5% from the field. The Spainard showed flashes of dominance, including a 16-point, 11-rebound performance at Providence and a 19-rebound game at Seton Hall, demonstrating her ability to take over games on the boards.
Lavelle, a sports management major with a 3.75 GPA, played in 34 games with 20 starts and carved out a steady role as a two-way contributor as a forward. She averaged 4.8 points per game, while shooting 41.0% from the field and 81.6% from the free throw line. The Moosic, Pa. native had an impact that went beyond scoring, adding 2.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game, showing versatility and defensive activity. Lavelle scored a season-high 17 points against Hofstra on Dec. 13.
