Carrillo, Punyed To Represent El Salvador In Upcoming Friendlies

QUEENS, N.Y. - Former St. John's teammates Derby Carrillo and Pablo Punyed are among the 20 National Team players selected to represent El Salvador in upcoming international friendlies against Argentina on March 28 (4 p.m., beIN SPORTS) and Guatemala on March 31 (11 p.m.).
Ranked No. 89 in the latest FIFA World Rankings, El Salvador takes on Argentina (No. 2) at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. The squad then heads to Carson, Calif., for its match with Guatemala (No. 82) at StubHub Center.
Carrillo has five caps for El Salvador, including four appearances in international friendlies. The keeper posted a shutout in his first-career cap on Jan. 27, 2013, a 1-0 win against Belize in the third-place game of the Copa Centroamericana. Carrillo plays club soccer for Santa Tecla F.C. of the Primera Division in El Salvador.
Punyed has four caps for El Salvador, all of which have come in international friendlies. The midfielder earned his first-career cap against Colombia on Oct. 10, 2014. Punyed plays club soccer for Stjarnan of the Urvalsdeild, the top division in Iceland.
Carrillo appeared in 23 games, including 22 starts, in two seasons with the Red Storm from 2008-09. The keeper posted a 9-3-10 (.636) record to go with 11 shutouts and a 0.49 goals against average. The starting keeper for the 2009 squad that won the BIG EAST Tournament title, Carrillo helped St. John's reach back-to-back NCAA Tournaments, advance to one College Cup and win a BIG EAST regular season championship.
The BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year, a first team All-BIG EAST selection and a team captain as a senior, Punyed helped lead the Red Storm to a 52-19-16 (.690) record during a four-year career from 2008-11. Punyed appeared in 84 games, including 62 starts, and totaled 10 goals, four-game-winners, and six assists. The midfielder helped St. John's reach three NCAA Tournaments, advance to one College Cup, win two BIG EAST Tournament crowns and one BIG EAST regular season title.
