Newly minted St. John’s coach to appear before Mets-Reds game tomorrow afternoon
QUEENS, N.Y. – Mike Anderson, who was named the 21st head coach in the history of St. John's Men's Basketball last month, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the start of the Mets-Reds game at Citi Field on Thursday afternoon. The first pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
Anderson arrived in Queens last month following a successful tenure at Arkansas that saw his teams reach the postseason five times in eight seasons, including three bids to the NCAA Tournament. In two of those three NCAA berths, Anderson's teams advanced to the round of 32.
In 17 seasons as a head coach, Anderson has never endured a losing season. He is one of just four active Division I coaches with at least 15 years experience and no sub .500 campaigns, accompanied in that regard by legendary names in Mark Few, Tom Izzo and Roy Williams.
In all, Anderson's teams have been to nine NCAA Tournaments in 17 seasons, highlighted by a run to the Elite Eight with Missouri in 2009. The Birmingham, Ala., native holds a career record of 369-200 as a head coach.
