The Birmingham, England native tallied two goals in season-opening win over Lehigh
QUEENS, N.Y. – Graduate transfer Max McNulty has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after a stellar performance in his Red Storm debut, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
McNulty picked up his first career BIG EAST nod of the year after tallying two goals in Thursday's 2-1 victory over Lehigh. His two goals are tied for 10th in the nation while also being one of 17 Division I players to tally two or more braces in just one game played this season.
After heading home his first goal in the 26th minute off passes from Alejandro Rabell and Macoumba Ba, McNulty ripped a Miguel Diaz pass towards the far corner for his second of the game in the 75th minute, this one coming with a man down.
McNulty became the first Red Storm player with two goals in a season opener since Medufia Kelugo on Aug. 24, 1996, against Fordham. The Lander University transfer will also look to become the first Johnnie since Kelugo, who scored two against the Rams and two against Hartwick (Sept. 1) to open the 1996 campaign, to register back-to-back two-goal efforts to start the season.
The Johnnies return to action tonight as they take on the defending Big Ten Champions and former BIG EAST foe, Rutgers, at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
