QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's junior Zuby Ejiofor was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday.
The 6-foot-9 forward from Garland, Texas averaged 17.3 points on 16-for-24 shooting from the floor and 20 made free throws through three contests in The Bahamas. Ejiofor also produced 9.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.
Ejiofor recorded 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field in the team's hard-fought 99-98 double-overtime setback to No. 13/14 Baylor in the opening game of the Baha Mar Hoops Championship on Thursday. Ejiofor also matched his career-high with 10 boards and five blocks en route to his second double-double of the season.
The Johnnies' big man crashed the boards again in Friday's 80-55 rout of Virginia, pulling down seven of his nine rebounds on the offensive glass. Ejiofor also recorded eight points, two steals and a pair of blocks in the winning effort over the Cavaliers.
Ejiofor registered another 22-point effort on Sunday in a narrow 66-63 setback to Georgia at Imperial Arena inside Atlantis Resort, shooting 5-of-8 from the floor and a personal-best 12-for-13 effort from the charity stripe. He became the first player to log 20-plus points and 12-plus free throws in a game since Shamorie Ponds produced 13 of his 37 points from the line against Georgia Tech on Dec. 7, 2018. Ejiofor also chipped in eight rebounds and a career-high three steals.
