QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's men's soccer Head Coach Dr. David Masur has announced the addition of former FDU Head Coach Seth Roland to the 2024 staff as an assistant coach in a volunteer role.
Roland, who spent 27 seasons with the Knights from 1997-2023, was ranked 10th among active NCAA head coaches in wins (360) at the time of his departure. The Teaneck, N.J., native is the winningest coach in FDU history with 240 victories, including an NEC-record 120 in conference play. Roland led the Knights to eight league tournament championships and five regular-season titles during his tenure.
FDU made a pair of runs in the national postseason slate under Roland's guidance, advancing to the 2001 NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals before reaching the Round of 16 the following year. The two-time NEC Coach of the Year led four players to All-America status and four more to conference Player of the Year honors. Thirteen students went on to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft or signed professional contracts, including former US National Team standout and current Philadelphia Union captain Alejandro Bedoya.
Roland also served five seasons with William & Mary, earning an NCAA Tournament berth four times as head coach and reaching the quarterfinals in 1996. The newest Johnnie tallied an 83-22-9 (.763) record with the Tribe. He also spent time at the Division II and Division III levels with Bridgeport and Christopher Newport, respectively.
The Red Storm coaching staff composed of Masur, David Janezic, John Ciano and Roland have accumulated 735 wins at the helm of respective NCAA programs across all levels.
The Johnnies will wrap up their preseason slate with an exhibition game against Drexel at Belson Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m. St. John's will open its 2024 campaign on the road against Rhode Island on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m., before returning to Queens on Aug. 25 for its home opener against Stony Brook at 7:30 p.m.
