Zuby Ejiofor Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year averaged 22.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games
QUEENS, N.Y. – Following a stellar start to the 2025-26 campaign, senior forward Zuby Ejiofor has been named the season's first BIG EAST Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday by the league office.
The BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year averaged 22.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in the Red Storm's opening two games, shooting 72.7% (16-of-22) from the floor, 66.7% (2-of-3) from deep and connecting on 10 of his 16 tries from the charity stripe (62.5%). The 6-foot-9 forward also averaged 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per contest.
Ejiofor opened the season with 17 points, six rebounds and three assists in just 24 minutes of action in a 34-point win over Quinnipiac. He went 7-of-10 from the floor and sank three of his six tries from the charity stripe.
On Saturday against No. 15/16 Alabama inside The World's Most Famous Arena, Ejiofor exploded for 27 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. The senior connected on nine of his 12 field goal tries, including a 2-for-3 effort from beyond the arc, and went 7-of-10 from the free throw line. The leading offensive rebounder in the nation a season ago at 4.4 per game, Ejiofor pulled down five of his 10 boards on the offensive glass. The Red Storm captain also dished out three assists for the second straight game and blocked a pair of shots.
Ejiofor scored 21 of his 27 points in the first half against the Crimson Tide, good enough for the highest scoring stanza of his career. His 27 points marked the third highest single-game point total of his career. He scored 33 against Marquette in the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament Semifinal and posted 28 against Kansas State in that season's Big East-Big 12 Battle.
This marks Ejiofor's first BIG EAST Player of the Week honor. Last season, he was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll five times on his way to winning BIG EAST Most Improved Player honors and finding a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team. Ejiofor was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Second Team in 2024-25.
St. John's will return to action on Saturday when it hosts William & Mary at Carnesecca Arena. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on truTV and 1050 AM ESPN New York.
