The Red Storm have won six straight against the Seawolves
The St. John's women's tennis team will take on Long Island rival Stony Brook on Wednesday. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Center is set for 12:15 p.m.
The Johnnies are 4-3 this season, most recently falling to Maryland on Sunday, 4-0. Alicia Gomez has led the Johnnies in her second year in Queens, winning nine total matches so far this season, including both of her contests against the FDU on Feb. 14. Gomez has a team-best five singles triumphs and has won four matches in doubles play alongside Victoria Papadopoulou. Giulia Bizzari has three singles wins, while Sandra Dzhambazov, Alexandra Nielsen and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde have each picked up a pair of victories.
Stony Brook comes to Queens an even 3-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. After taking down Drexel in their conference opener, 4-2, on Feb. 15, the Seawolves have dropped consecutive road matches against Boston U. and Brown. Wednesday's contest against the Johnnies will be the third match of a seven-match road swing.
Mia Palladino and Elena Lobo-Corral each have a team-leading four singles triumphs, while Sara Annamaria Medev has three victories in solo play. In doubles action, Darian Perfiliev and Cornelia Bruu-Syversen have three wins as a pair to lead Stony Brook.
Wednesday will be the 14th all-time meeting between the two local foes, with the Johnnies leading the series, 7-6. St. John's has won the last six matchups, including picking up a 4-2 triumph on April 10 last season.
Following Wednesday's match, the Johnnies will head to Florida over the weekend for a pair of contests. On Sunday, the Red Storm will take on Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach before traveling to Fort Myers to face FGCU.
