St. John’s Shuts Out Stony Brook, 4-0

The Johnnies earned their fourth sweep of the season
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team swept past Stony Brook on Wednesday, 4-0, at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Johnnies (6-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) won the first two matches in doubles play to take the team point before earning three victories to kick off singles action to complete the shutout.
Giulia Bizzari and Charlotta Buss started the day for the Red Storm, running past Cornelia Bruu-Syverrs and Isadora Fares on the No. 1 court, 3-0. Bizzari and Buss are 5-0 as a pair this season. Sandra Dzhambazov and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde clinched the team point for the home side with a 6-3 takedown of Kristi Boro and Sara Annamaria Medves on the No. 2 court.
Up 1-0, Bizzari earned her second victory of the day to start singles play, defeating Medves in straight sets on the No. 6 court, 6-1, 6-1, improving the freshman's solo record to an undefeated 5-0. Buss gave the Johnnies a 3-0 advantage with her third singles win of the season, earning a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Bruu-Syvers at No. 3 singles.
Dzhambazov finished the show with a 7-6, 6-4 decision against Mila Charles on the No. 5 court, completing the sweep.
With the victory, the Red Storm improves to 8-6 all-time against the Seawolves and has won the last seven meetings between the local rivals.
The Johnnies will head south for a pair of matches in the Sunshine State. On Saturday, St. John's will be in Daytona Beach, Fla., for an 11 a.m. meeting against Bethune-Cookman, before traveling to Fort Myers on Sunday to face FGCU at 10 a.m.
