NEW YORK – Fresh off St. John's first outright BIG EAST Regular Season Championship since 1985, Head Coach Rick Pitino and junior wing RJ Luis Jr. will join CBS's "Inside College Basketball" live in studio on Sunday afternoon.
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer and St. John's leading scorer will join hosts Adam Zucker, Clark Kellogg and Jay Wright at 1 p.m. to discuss Saturday's title clinching victory over Seton Hall and preview the postseason. The weekly preview show will lead right into No. 8 Michigan State hosting No. 11 Wisconsin at the Breslin Center.
Pitino guided the Red Storm to an outright conference crown after downing Seton Hall on Saturday at Madison Square Garden, 71-61. The Johnnies moved to 26-4 overall and 17-2 in BIG EAST competition, a program record for total wins.
St. John's wrapped up an undefeated regular season at home for the first time since 1931-32. The Red Storm went 18-0 in games played at Carnesecca Arena and Madison Square Garden. The Johnnies have also spent three straight weeks ranked in the national polls, rising to No. 7 in the Associated Press poll, the program's highest ranking since 1991.
Pitino captured his 13th regular season title, becoming the first coach in college basketball history to finish atop the league at five different schools. The New York native won his third BIG EAST Regular Season title after winning the crown at Louisville in 2009 and 2013. With Saturday's victory over Seton Hall, Pitino surpassed Dean Smith to move into seventh all-time in wins in NCAA Division I College Basketball history.
Luis delivered his fourth 20+ point performance in the last six games and 10th of the season with a game-high 21 points versus the Pirates. The Miami native currently ranks fourth in the BIG EAST averaging 17.8 points and sixth in the conference with 6.9 rebounds per contest this season. Luis also ranks top-12 in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage (44.3 pct, 11th), free throw percentage (73.9 pct, 11th), steals (1.5 spg, 12th), offensive rebounds (2.0 orpg, 8th) and defensive rebounds (5.0 drpg, 6th).
Pitino and the Johnnies will have the week off before returning to the hardwood for their regular season finale at No. 21/22 Marquette on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
