The Red Storm return to AP poll for the first time since Dec. 15 and will be ranked for the eighth week this season. The Johnnies started the season at no. 5, their highest preseason ranking in program history, and have cracked the poll 20 times over the last two seasons. That marks the most total weeks in the top 25 in a two-season span since 1998-2000 (23).
In the USA Today Coaches poll, the Red Storm slid up one spot to no. 25 after re-entering the rankings last Monday. St. John's has been included in 11 of the 14 coaches polls this season. Dating back to Jan. 20, 2025, the Johnnies have been ranked in the USA TODAY Coaches poll in 21 out of 24 possible weeks.
The Red Storm has rattled off six consecutive victories dating back to Jan. 6 and is 8-1 in BIG EAST play for the second straight season. St. John's orchestrated a pair of furious comebacks last week rallying back from deficits of 15 points or more in the second half to secure wins over Seton Hall and Xavier. The come-from-behind victory over the Musketeers marked the 900th career on-court victory for Rick Pitino.
St. John's has won its first five road games to start the season for the first time since the 1982-83 campaign, when it started 5-0 away from home. Dating back to last season, the Red Storm has recorded eight straight BIG EAST wins on the road, the most by any program in the league since Villanova rattled off 13 consecutively from Jan. 31, 2015 to Feb. 9, 2016. The Johnnies currently sit in sole possession of second place in the conference standings at 8-1, trailing the Huskies by a single game.
