Darling becomes third Red Storm player to earn MET Player of the Week in the last four weeks
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's men's basketball guard Dylan Darling was tabbed the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The redshirt junior averaged 19.5 points on 55.0% (11-20) shooting, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in a 2-0 week for the Red Storm. Darling played a pivotal role in the 87-82 overtime win over Xavier and the road victory at Providence, 79-69, to expand the Johnnies' winning streak to 11 games.
On Saturday, Darling went for season-high's of 23 points and eight rebounds in the 10th straight road win for the Red Storm at Amica Mutual Pavilion. He shot 8-for-9 (88.9%) from the charity stripe and swiped three steals in Rhode Island. Darling logged 18 of his 23 points in the second half, marking his first 20-point performance since March 3, 2025 when he exploded for a career-high 34 points against Northern Arizona while at Idaho State.
In Monday's overtime victory over Xavier, Darling racked up 16 points, five boards and four assists in a season-high 34 minutes of action at Madison Square Garden.
Over the last three games, Darling is averaging 16.0 points on 58.3% shooting from the floor. After going 1-for-15 from 3-point range to start the year, the Spokane Wash., native has turned it around cashing in on 17-of-36 attempts (47.2%) from beyond-the-arc.
Darling becomes the third player in the last four weeks to be named MBWA Player of the Week. Dillon Mitchell earned the honor on Jan. 27 and Zuby Ejiofor collected the accolade last week. This marks the first player of the week award for Darling in a St. John's uniform. Last year, he was tabbed the 2025 Big Sky Player of the Year averaging 19.3 points and 5.7 assists per game at Idaho State.
On the year, Darling has made 23 appearances and six starts logging 7.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game off the bench.
Darling and No. 17/16 St. John's will take on Marquette tomorrow night in Milwaukee. The action from Fiserv Forum is set to tip-off at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
