QUEENS, N.Y. - After guiding St. John's to a pair of wins last week, Zuby Ejiofor was named the NCAA March Madness National Player of the Week on Monday.
Ejiofor was recognized by NCAA analyst Andy Katz as the top performer in the country last week. It marks the first national weekly award for the captain and first St. John's player to earn the honor since RJ Luis Jr. last season on Feb. 10, 2025.
Ejiofor averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 blocks during a 2-0 week for the Johnnies as they defeated DePaul on the road and took down No. 3/3 UConn at Madison Square Garden. The senior forward led the team in scoring, rebounding and assists in both contests.
On Friday night's meeting with the Huskies, the Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year shined under the bright lights delivering a memorable performance during the Red Storm's highest ranked win five years. The Garland, Texas native went for 21 points, 10 rebounds, tied a career-high seven assists, three blocks and two steals in the 81-72 victory over the Huskies. The big man shot 8-for-10 from the charity stripe and registered a plus-20 at The World's Most Famous Arena.
On Tuesday night, Ejiofor paced the Johnnies to their ninth consecutive BIG EAST road win logging a 68-56 decision over DePaul at Wintrust Arena. The team captain guided the Red Storm with a near double-double adding 16 points, nine boards and four assists.
On the year, the veteran leads the team and ranks top-10 in the BIG EAST in scoring (15.9 PPG), rebounding (7.6 RPG), assists (3.5 APG), and blocks (2.0 BPG). He is the only player in high major basketball and one of three in NCAA Division I to rank top-10 in the conference in four of those statistical categories joined by Utah Valley's Jackson Holcombe and Raysean Seamster of UT-Arlington.
The two-time BIG EAST Player of the Week has recently been named to the Naismith Defensive of the Player and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award Midseason Watch Lists. Ejiofor has logged 18 double-digit scoring efforts, six 20-plus point performances and five double-doubles.
St. John's will be back in action tonight when it meets Xavier at Madison Square Garden for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off on FS1.
