St. John's 9-8 lead early in the first half, was answered by Manhattan with a 12 point run giving them the 20-9 advantage. Glover had 14 of his 22 points, and Jaspers' Luis Flores and Mugsy Green combined for 30, in the first half.
The Red Storm came out strong in the second half. Sophomore Willie Shaw (Bronx, N.Y.) would score five of SJU's first 10 points, cutting Manhattan's lead to three. The Jaspers notched their first points of the second half at 14:30, and would go on a 6-0 run, to give them a nine point lead which they would not relinquish. Dave Holmes led the way for the Jaspers with 12 points in the half, and Shaw had 10 total in 12 minutes of action.
St. John's outrebounded Manhattan(6-1), 40-35, but the Jaspers' posted a 52.8 shooting percentage from the field. The Red Storm also posted 18 steals and eight blocks to the Jaspers' 10 and two, respectively.
