SJU Fencer Ivan Lee Named U.S. Fencer of the Year

These Athletes of the Year and Team of the Year were fencings nominations to the U.S. Olympic Committee for SportsMan, SportsWoman and Team of the Year honors.
Since joining the St. Johns program, Lee has helped the Red Storm remain among the elite in the country. A two-time All-American, he won the NCAA Division I Championship in the sabre last year, guiding St. Johns to its first-ever national championship.
He was the 2001 Under-20 Men's Sabre World Championships silver medallist and a key member of the gold-medal World Junior Men's Sabre team. This was the first U.S. men's team at any age group to win a gold medal at a World Championships. He was also a member of the 2001 Senior World Championships men's sabre team, which made the Final Eight for the first time in more than 20 years.
Lee won a bronze medal at a Senior "A" World Cup in Madrid, Spain in May. He finished the 2000-01 season ranked No. 2 in the F.I.E. Junior World Cup standings, and earned a silver medal at a Junior "A" World Cup in Budapest, Hungary in January 2001.
Lee was the 2001 U.S. Men's Sabre National Champion and finished the season ranked #1 in the U.S. senior and junior rankings.
