St. John’s Falls to Elon on Monday

The Red Storm will be back in action on Friday against No. 8 Villanova
CAMDEN, S.C. – The St. John's men's tennis team dropped its regular-season finale to Elon (6-12) on Friday afternoon in Camden, S.C.
Despite the setback, the Red Storm will enter Friday's BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal matchup against Villanova with a 16-6 overall record, including a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play.
St. John's secured the doubles point to open the match, but Elon rallied in singles action, claiming five matches to earn a 5-2 victory.
In doubles play, the pairing of Danilo Raicevic and Radomir Tomic set the tone with a hard-fought 6-4 win on the No. 1 court, marking their 10th victory together this season. After Elon evened things up with a win on the No. 2 court, Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy delivered a clutch performance on the No. 3 court, battling to a 7-6 (7-3) win to clinch the doubles point for the Red Storm.
In singles action, the Phoenix gained momentum early, taking victories on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts to claim a 2-1 lead. Venedikt Tsirikidze responded for St. John's, earning a three-set victory on the No. 3 court over Jack Curtis, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, to even the match at 2-2.
Elon would go on to win the next three singles matches, securing the 5-2 decision.
With the result, the all-time series between the two programs is now even, with each team earning a win over the past two seasons.
Dillon Pottish's squad will now shift its focus to postseason play, as it begins its BIG EAST Championship title defense on Friday at 9 a.m. against eighth-seeded Villanova. All matches will be held at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.
