Jamora Alves Named BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week for Second Straight Week

NEW YORK – St. John's track and field standout Jamora Alves was named the BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week following her impressive performance over the weekend, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Alves becomes the first Johnnie to earn an athlete of the week honor in back-to-back weeks since Lead Anderson did so in January of 2020. This is the fifth time the senior has appeared on the honor roll during her career.
The Grenada native won the discus throw at the South Florida Invitational on Saturday. She delivered a season-best performance in the ring with a winning throw of 52.03m (170 feet, 8 inches), nearly six meters further than second place. The mark that ranks atop the BIG EAST and 29th in NCAA East Region.
Alves and the rest of the team will make their way up to Storrs, Conn., for the UConn Northeast Challenge. Action from the George J. Sheraman Family Sports Complex is set to being on Friday morning and conclude on Saturday afternoon.
