"Elijah scrimmaged on Saturday and looked great. We agreed that he should take care of the injury now so that it wouldn't hinder him during the season," head coach Mike Jarvis said. "There's no need for him to be less than 100 percent and the doctor's feel he'll be back to normal within 1-2 weeks time."
St. John's head trainer and assistant athletic director of sports medicine, Ron Linfonte, explained the injury as a "torn radial collateral ligament in his left thumb."
The surgery is done to repair and re-attach the ligament to the thumb. Dr. Michelle Carlson of the Hospital for Special Surgery performed the surgery this afternoon in Manhattan.
Ingram's status will be evaluated by Linfonte and team physicians in the coming weeks.
