BANGURA TO MISS VIRGINIA TECH GAME THIS WEEKEND

February 1, 2002, Jamaica, NY St. Johns mens basketball player Alpha Bangura will not make the trip with the Red Storm this weekend to play in Sundays BIG EAST contest at Virginia Tech, head coach Mike Jarvis announced today.

Bangura met with Jarvis after the Seton Hall game (January 29) to discuss his future with the team and has been excused from this weekends game.

Alpha is still a member of the team and will take some time to collect his thoughts and ponder his future at St. Johns, Jarvis said. I will sit down and talk to him upon our return from Virginia Tech.

The junior guard is averaging 5.6 points per game and 2.2 rebounds in 20 appearances this year. Bangura has started five games and is averaging 15.8 minutes per game this season.
