Hatten averaged 23.0 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Red Storm (7-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) posted wins over Niagara and Seton Hall last week.
An All-American candidate, Naismith Award candidate (best player 6-1 and under) and Wooden Award nominee for national player of the year honors, the 6-1 guard scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had four assists as St. Johns ended a three-game losing streak on January 2, with a 78-68 win over Niagara at Alumni Hall.
On Saturday, in the Red Storms BIG EAST season opener, Hatten scored a season-high 31 points, leading St. Johns to a 74-66 win over Seton Hall. Hatten connected on 10-of-21 shots from the field, and 11-of-11 from the free throw line, as he scored at least 30 points for the second time this season, and the sixth in his two-year St. Johns career. In addition, Hatten grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, recording his second double-double this season, and the third of his career.
Through 10 games, Hatten leads St. Johns, and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring, with 21.6 points per game. He is also second in the league in steals, averaging 2.90 per game, and 17th in the league in rebounding, grabbing a team-best 6.6 boards.
Hatten, who was a preseason All-BIG EAST selection, now has 860 points in 42 career games at St. Johns, a 20.5 per game average. He is on pace to become the 41st player in school history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
St. Johns returns to action on Wednesday, playing its first BIG EAST road game of the season at Providence at 7:30 p.m. The Red Storm then travel West, playing at UCLA for the first time since 1987.
