Jamaica, N.Y. - St. John's University announced today that head men's basketball coach, Mike Jarvis, has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately. Kevin Clark, in his sixth year as an assistant coach at St. John's, will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Jarvis was appointed the program's head coach on June 11, 1998; he took over the reins at St. John's after spending eight seasons as head coach at George Washington University from 1989 to 1998.
The President of St. John's, Father Donald Harrington, stated that the University wished Coach Jarvis and his family well in their future endeavors and thanked the family for their contributions to St. John's.
St. John's will begin the process of identifying a new coach in the near future.
